In the quarterfinals Briedis beat Congolese Luis Luizon by TKO in the first round. Two counts were opened after the body punches and one after the short right hook to the head.
In semi-finals Briedis beats on points in three rounds phisically strong German Robert Teuber, who was unbeaten in the 5 previous fights. Mairis was very determined and beat Robert from the both hands, the referee Steve Smooger almost stopped the fight before the bell, but gave the chance to German and he stood-up.
The final was the rematch of the very same tournament of 2010, when Briedis won his opponent, Pavel Zhuravlev, 29, of Ukraine on the points. The Ukrainian won his two previous fight by the TKO in the 1-st and 2-nd rounds. The both opponents were very focused and motivated, but Briedis used his jab that much, that Zhuravlev just couldn't put together his combinations and attacks. However, judges gave the 4-th extra-round. In the last Briedis putted also his pressure on and kept the jabbing. The verdict after the extra-round was clear, the unanimous winner is Mairis Briedis!
