The former world heavyweight champion Jimmy Ellis, or James Albert Ellis in full name, was born on February 24, 1940, in Louisville, Kentucky. Louisville is also the hometown of great Muhammad Ali, so both fighters used to train at the same gym and their coach and manager was also the same person- Angelo Dundee. In 1968, at the time while Ali was in prison for refusing to go to war in Vietnam, Ellis won the eight man contest for the vacant heavyweight crown. In 1970, Ellis lost the championship to Joe Frazier, by TKO in the 5-th. Jimmy was the regular sparring-partner and the team mate for Ali, but in 1971 they met on the ring as opponents. That time Ali won by TKO in the 12. Ellis retired in 1975 with the record of 40(24 KO)-12(4 KO)-1. Jimmy Ellis is still living in Louisville, on February 24 he becomes 74-years-old!
