December 8, Las Vegas. One more mega-fight of the year went in MGM Grand Center on the last Saturday. The experts were quite poor with their predictions before the fight. But could anyone even wonder that the fight will finish like this?
The fourth meeting of Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez started as expected, both fighters tried to provoke each other to attack and make the mistakes. In the first two the quicker was Pacquiao. In the third round Marquez throws the big right hook, which caught Manny to the temple and got knocked down. In the fifth Marquez went down after Pacquiao's short left cross. After the knock-down the Mexican started to look slower, Manny starts to throw his combinations more often. At the very end of the sixth Manny goes to straight right-left, Marquez steps little left and with the short right hook knocks Pacquiao spark-out!!! About the minute the ring-doctors needed to get Manny back to reality. Juan Manuel Marquez, 39, now is 55(40 KO)-6-1, and maybe it is quite reasonable to build up the rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr. What about Pacman!? He is 34 and his record after the two straight losses is 54(38 KO)-5(3 KO)-2, and maybe this one was the sign to look back on his brilliant carrier!?
The 2004 Athens Olympic Champion, Yuriorkis Gamboa, 31, of Cuba, won the interim WBA super-featherweight title beating on points The Philippino Michael Farenas, 28. Farenas was down in the second and the sixth rounds, but could even knocked-down Gamboa himself in the ninth, for the first time in his pro-carrier. Gamboa now is 22(16 KO)-0. Farenas 34(26 KO)-4-4.
Miguel Angel Vasquez, 25, for the fifth time defended his IBF lightweight belt. The Mexican easy outpointed Mercito Gesta, 25, from Philippines. Vasquez now is 33(13 KO)-3, but Gesta lost for the first time in his carrier, he is 26(14 KO)-1-1.
In Herning, Denmark, the former WBA and WBC super-middleweight champion, The Dane Mikkel Kessler won the WBA belt for the fourth time. The Irishman Brian Magee, 37, went down three times after the body punches and was stopped in the 3-rd. Now Kessler has altogether 12 belts and the record of 46(36 KO)-2. Magee goes to 36(25 KO)-5(3 KO)-1. Would be nice to watch another clash of Kessler and Carl Froch, this time for the unification title.
