On June 7, at the New York's Madison Square Garden will take place one of this year's topic fight. For the WBC middleweight belt the current champion, The Argentinian Sergio Martinez,39, will face the former four-time world champion, Miguel Cotto, 33, of Puerto Rico.
Sergio Maravilla Martinez during his carrier relatively had not too much the biggest fights, he has two world titles. But in his 39 he still the world's Nr. 1 middleweight and also is considered as one of the toughest and the most awkward opponents. He has two losses in 55 appearances, the one of which came at the very early period, in 2000, but the second one was in the close and tough battle against Paul Williams. Having the wins over the six world champions, Sergio has under his belt the names as the same Williams (at the rematch), Kelly Pavlik and the dangerous, in the past days, Ukrainian, Sergei Dzinziruk. It will be his second title defense.
No doubt that Miguel Cotto has much more titles than his opponent- four world titles in three weight divisions with the nine defenses. He has victories over the greats as Judah, Mosley, Mayorga and Margarito. Also, Miguel had much more big and juicy pay-days than current champion. Only but- he has two losses in his last three bouts and it happen in the lower division!
PREDICTION: Despite of the fact that Martinez is six years older, I give him my favor. In my opinion, he just like Hopkins (at his time) is getting into the top gear right now. Sergio has the hunger for the titles and for the big pay-days. At the same time, Cotto, probably, already has all his biggest and moneyed fights behind them. And also the matter of weight. Don't think that Cotto, who started as 140 lb fighter could carry on the same at 160 lb, when Martinez, in his turn, is solid and natural middleweight. I think Martinez will have the unanimous decision win, or else will knock Cotto out starting from the 8-th round. I bet 80/20 to Sergio Martinez!
