July 13, 2012 died one of the greatest Polish boxer of all time, two time Olympic champion Jerzy Kuley

Kuley was born October 19, 1940 in Czestochowa, Poland. His first success in boxing came in 1963, when he became European champion in Moscow at light-welterweight (63.5 Kilo) , in the finals beating by points Latvian Aloiz Tuminsh. One year later Kuley won Olympics in Tokyo, in the finals beating by points Russian Evgeni Frolov. In 1965 in Berlin Jerzy reached his second European title in the finals winning by points Preben Rasmussen of Denmark, but in 1967 in Rome Kuley comes only second, in the close decision losing to Valeri Frolov of Russia. Whatever, in 1968 in Mexico City, Kuley for the second time conquered Olympic Games in the very hard fight beating by points Cuban Enrique Requeiferos and becomes only the third boxer in history, who won more than one medal at the Olympics. He had 317 wins, 25 losses and 6 draws.

In his later years Kuley became a politician, representing a various parties over the time. From 2001 till 2005 he was the member of Polish parliament- the Sejm.

At December of 2011 Kuley suffered a massive heart attack, while in recovery process he died in Warsaw on July 13, 2012.

Jerzy Kuley is widely thought as the all time greatest Polish amateur boxer and also one of the best Europe's and world's light-welterweight of the history of boxing.
