Konstantin "Kostya" Tszyu was born in 1969, Serov, Russia (Soviet Union then), near by Ural mountains. His father is a half-Korean, a half-Mongolian, there from Kostya got his Asian surname and Asian look-like face, his mother is Russian. As amateur he had record of 259-11, he was Junior European champion at featherweight in 1986 and Junior World vice-champion at lightweight in 1987. In 1988 he represented Soviet Union at Seoul Olympics, at the age of 19, and reached the quarterfinals. In 1989 Tszyu won Senior European Championships in Athens, in 1990 he wins Goodwill Games in Seattle, at light-welter, but in 1991 he became both, European and World champion, in Goteborg and Sydney respectively. During his stay in Australia he signs professional contract and by turning to pro, with his family Kostya moves to Sydney, where he becames soon Australian citizen. Tszyu becames IBF light-welterweight champion of the world only in his 14-th professional bout, beating by TKO in 6-th Puerto Rican Jake Rodriguez. During his professional carrier Tszyu had the wins over all the best boxers of his division, including; the Mexican legends Miguel Angel Gonzalez and Julio Cesar Chavez, twice over American Sharmba Mitchell, brilliant KO over "Super" Zab Judah, and Jesse James Leija. Only two losses he had were against Vince Phillips by TKO in 9-th in 1997 and in his last fight in 2005, from Englishman Ricky Hatton, by Tszyu's retiring after the 10-th round. Kostya had 23 WBA, WBC and IBF belts with the record of 31(25 KO)-2(2 KO) and 1 no contest. He is regarded as the greatest professional boxer ever in Russia, also Tszyu is treated as the national hero in Australia. Today he is 43!
Azumah Nelson was born in 1958 in capital of Ghana, Accra. As amateur he had record of 50-2 and was the Commonwealth champion in 1978. As a pro he fought for WBC featherweight title already in his 14-th fight, when in NY by TKO in 15-th round he lost to Mexican Salvador Sanchez. Anyway, two years later he won the very same title beating by KO in 11-th, Wilfredo Gomez of Puerto Rico. For next 5 years Nelson goes unbeaten defending his titles, during that period he won also WBC super-featherweight title. In 1990, in Las Vegas, in very close decision Azumah lost to unique Pernell Whitaker for WBC and IBF lightweight belt. However, Nelson went back to super-feather and still had many defences of his title. His the most notable fights were; win, loss and draw against great Aussie Jeff Fenech, wins over Americans Calvin Grove and Gabriel Ruelas, loss from Mexican-American Genaro Hernandez and draw and two losses from another yankee, Jesse James Leija. Nelson completed with the record of 39(28 KO)-6(1 KO)-2 and 18 WBC titles under his belt. Azumah Nelson is considered as the greatest ever boxer from Africa and the athlete Nr. 1 in Ghana, also he is one of the best champions at super-featherweight. And one more great fighter has the Birthday today. It is the greatest ever wrestler Alexander Karelin! Karelin was born in 1967 in Novosibirsk, Russia. Nicknamed "The Russian Bear", because he came from the middle of Syberia. He won three Olympics in Greco-Roman style at heavyweight- 130 Kilo (later on 120 Kilo), 1988 in Seoul, 1992 in Barcelona, 1996 in Atlanta, on 2000 in Sydney he got a silver medal. Besides Karelin was 9-times World Champion and 12-times European champion. He is universally considered the greatest Greco-Roman style wrestler and one of the greatest athlete in Russia and the rest of the world! Today Alexander Karelin is 45!
