On October 18 his Birthday celebrates one of the greatest professional fighter Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns!

Thomas Hearns was born 1958 in Grand Junction, Tennessee. He was the third elder of nine. When Tommy was 5, the family moved to Detroit, Michigan. As amateur Thomas had 163 fights, and lost only 8 of them. In 1977 he won National Golden Gloves tournament at light-welter.

Hearns turned to pro in Detroit's famous Kronx Gym under the guidance of legendary Emanuel Steward (who wasn't such a legend by that time). Thomas has won his first 17 fights by the KO, he was awkward to his opponents- tall, long-armed, fast skillful boxer, who also could punch a bit. In August, 1980, Hearns became WBA welterweight champion of the world, knocking out in 2-nd Jose Cuevas of Mexico. On September, 1981, in Vegas, Thomas suffered his first loss. By TKO in 14-th he lost to the former Olympic Champion and the future super-star, Sugar Ray Leonard. In the future these two will always associated to each other and decided as one of the greatest fighters between welter and light-heavy divisions. In 1989 they fought again for the WBC and WBO super-middleweight titles. The 12-rounder end-up as draw, but many viewers thought that the winner was Hearns.

Altogether Thomas Hearns has won the WBA, WBC and WBO belts six times in five different weight divisions, from welter to light-heavy, succesfully defending them for nine times. At the end of his carrier, Thomas also won the cruiserweight champion belts at WBU and IBO bodies. The one of the biggest Hearns' win was over The Panamian warrior, Roberto Duran in 1984, in Vegas. Thomas defended his WBC belt at light-middle and knocked Duran out in the second round. But the most bitter loss came in April, 1985, when The Hitman challenged Marvelous Marvin Hagler for Hagler's WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight belts, Hearns was knocked out in the third. Thomas Hearns has fought a number of the best fighters of his generation and had wins over most of them. His last fight The Hitman had in February of 2006, at the age of almost 47 years. His final record is 61(48 KO)-5(4 KO)-1.

Hearns has founded his own promotional company Hearns Entertainment. He still living in Detroit and this year he is celebrating his 55-th Birthday Party!
